Student Council

To thrive, every school needs active participation from staff, students, and parents. At Yorkland, we believe Student involvement makes an essential contribution to the School. Over the class of each year, Student Council offer many rewarding opportunities in which the student body may be willing to contribute their time, talent, energy, imagination and personal resources.

Members of the Student Council are elected every school year with the vote of the full student body .Members of our Student  Council have had a great understanding of the school spirit  and help us strive in the success of our annual events, clubs, activities,

Student Council Members

 

Daisy Zhao   

Position: President

Introduction

Daisy Zhao, who came to Canada for three years, is an avant-garde Chinese girl.  She would like to become a tough and independent feminist. She wants more people see girl’s power in the school even in the society. Therefore, she chose to run for the president of student council. Paying attention to social issues is one of her most passionate things, and she always spreads her positive thoughts to others.

Main Duties

  • Start meetings at the assigned time and note if a quorum is present.
  • Announce the business to come before the assembly in the proper order.
  • Recognize members who wish to speak after they rise and address the chair.
  • State motions that are presented to the assembly, and if appropriate, put them to a vote, and announce the results of voting.
  • Enforce the rules of the organization relating to debate, order, and decorum.
  • Decide all points of order.
  • Protect the meeting procedures by refusing to recognize members who offer frivolous or dilatory motions.
  • Respond to members regarding parliamentary procedures.
  • Use good judgment by keeping debate on the topic that is under consideration germane and by appointing qualified members to committees.
  • Expedite business. Use time efficiently, allowing for satisfactory consideration of all items. However, don’t conduct business hastily or delay matters to a point where members are bored.
  • Adjourn the meeting.

 

Kevin Zhu  

Position: Vice President                        

Introductions

Kevin is a hard-working, smart, and polite boy. He does his job very well as a vice president. His goal is to make each student have a joyful study environment, and have more opportunities to attend various activities held by the school. He is also the head of the basketball club. The basketball club has 17 members in total, and the members practice regularly. Kevin gives his best efforts  to contribute to the students,  and student council.

Main Duties

  • Assist the President.
  • Preside for the President at meetings when:

the President is absent.

The President wants to debate.

A personal motion about the President is made.

  • Assume the duties of the President if the office becomes unoccupied.
  • Perform other duties that are specified in the bylaws of the organization.
 

Ally Song

Position: Treasurer

Introduction

Ally is an optimistic girl and easy to get along with. She is in favor of various sports and activities. As a member of the student council, she always tries her best to serve the students. She works with other members of the student council to plan a series of activities to make the school life much more colorful, ranging from sports to study, literature to article.

Main Duties

  • Properly receive and disburse moneys.
  • Keep an accurate record of all money received and disbursed.
  • Deposit all moneys received in the account of the organization is an approved bank as soon as possible.
  • Have the bank signature card include at least one other officer’s name.
  • Never deposit moneys received by the organization in a personal account.
  • Pay only by check as authorized.
  • Issue a receipt for moneys received.
  • Prepare a report for the regular meetings.
  • Prepare an annual report which is audited before it is presented.
  • Keep all receipts, bank statements, cancelled checks, etc., for the auditor.
  • Collect dues.

 

Anny Wang

Position: Secretary

Introduction

Anny is an outgoing and warm-hearted girl. Not only does she study hard, but also she is polite. Moreover, she completes her work carefully according to the guidelines. Smiling at life is her attitude. She is a good listener. As a member of student council, she always listens attentively to the schoolmates and try her best to help them solve the problems.

Main Duties

  • Maintain accurate written records of the proceedings of the organization.
  • Keep committee reports on file.
  • Maintain the official membership roll.
  • Notify officers, committee members, and delegates of their election or appointment.
  • Provide credentials for delegates.
  • Process the general correspondence including the agenda for meetings, and send out notices of meetings.
  • Have the bylaws and rules, a list of committees with their members, a record of membership, and an agenda available at each meeting.

 

Arthur Ji

Position: Peer Liaison

Introduction

Arthur is the kind of boy who works hard. He is very much mentally prepared and committed to making the school a better place for everyone.

 Arthur actively takes part in various activities on and off campus. In addition, he keeps good relationships with the schoolmates, and takes a leadership role among the peers.

Main Duties

  • Assist with new international student arrival in order to nurture a welcoming school environment.
  • Be involved in various learning communities on and off campus.
  • Serve as a mentor, role model, and academic resource as well as encouraging your peers to question and learn from their experiences and relations with other.
  • Develop, organize all logistics for, and lead programs, activities, and excursions during the school year.
  • Responsible for marketing communications during events to ensure positive peer involvement and feedback.
  • Communicate peer and faculty feedback to Student Council Coach.
