International Women's Day was celebrated on Sunday March 8th, 2020. We the students, staff and teachers at Yorkland High School joined other schools in our community as we commemorated this occasion by holding an assembly this morning, we all chose to wear something purple. This year's theme was 'I am Generation Equality: Realizing Women's Rights. The theme is aligned with the UN Women's New Multigenerational Campaign, Generation Equality.Purple, is the internationally recognized colour to symbolize women and it is used to celebrate International Women's Day, the global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women.We are a school culture that prides ourselves on inclusion and a positive balanced environment for learning and working.Please take a moment to look at some of the pictures from our International Women's…

Pink Shirt Day - Standing up Against Bullying. The students, teachers and staff came together and wore something pink to be unified in joining other schools and communities across Canada to say no to Bullying. On Wednesday, February 26th, schools across Canada acknowledged Pink Shirt Day.Pink Shirt Day Originated in Nova Scotia. When a few Grade 12 students saw that a Grade 9 student was being bullied for wearing a pink shirt on the first day of school. They felt the need to do something and take a stand, to say that this type of behaviour was not ok and would not be tolerated.They decided to do something about it, they purchased pink shirts and distributed these shirts for students to wear, to stand up for this Grade 9 Student.
