National Cup Cake Day 2018

Yorkland High School-Student Council and our volunteer students are honored to be a part of National Cup Cake event on Monday, February 26th.

National Cupcake Day is a coordinated Canadian event to support local shelters, SPCAs, and Humane Societies. Volunteer students baked and decorated cupcakes in our multi-purpose kitchen. By selling over 60 cupcakes, they were happy to raise countable donation for our furry friends.

Our Cupcake Day event had two adorable guests, Charlie and Grace. They are very friendly service dogs registered with Therapeutic Paws of Canada.

Service Dogs assist people not with only disabilities, these dogs can also help people who have various types of autism, need seizure alert or response, need to be alerted to other medical issues like low blood sugar, depression or have psychiatric illnesses.

Therapy dogs can reduce blood pressure and help the people relax in a more comfortable setting. A dog’s sense of touch can send a positive receptor, such as a warm sensation between the human and animal. This is a rewarding way to calm the patient who may suffer from anxiety, depression or post-stress disorder.

Many students develop high-level of stress and pressure during final exams. Arrival of our two friends added fun and so much loving in our day. We are really happy to meet them and can’t wait to see them next year.
