International Women's Day was celebrated on Sunday March 8th, 2020. We the students, staff and teachers at Yorkland High School joined other schools in our community as we commemorated this occasion by holding an assembly this morning, we all chose to wear something purple. This year's theme was 'I am Generation Equality: Realizing Women's Rights. Pink Shirt Day - Standing up Against Bullying. The students, teachers and staff came together and wore something pink to be unified in joining other schools and communities across Canada to say no to Bullying. On Wednesday, February 26th, schools across Canada acknowledged Pink Shirt Day.Pink Shirt Day Originated in Nova Scotia. When a few Grade 12 students saw that a Grade 9 student was being bullied for wearing a pink shirt on the first day of school. They felt the need to do something and take a stand, to say that this type of behaviour was not ok and would not be tolerated.They decided to do something about it, they purchased pink shirts and distributed these shirts for students to wear, to stand up for this Grade 9 Student. In order to enrich students’ school life, Yorkland organized field trip to Niagara Falls on September 12th, 2019. Niagara Falls is a group of three waterfalls at the southern end of Niagara Gorge, between the Canadian province of Ontario and the US state of New York. Students had a chance to sail with Hornblower to get up close and personal with the Canadian Horseshoe Falls, American Falls, and the breathtaking Niagara Gorge - and the thundering roar, awesome power and amazing mist that come along with these natural wonders. The new school year kick-started with an orientation day for Yorkland High School on September 04th, 2019. Students picked up student handbook, course schedule and school notice. Principal, Mr. Bailey, welcomed all of incoming and returning students. Academic director, Ms. Moros, introduced all teachers and staffs to our students. Students understand responsibilities of teachers and staffs, which help them to better involve in the school life in the new school year. Meanwhile, she gave an introduction of classroom discipline, school guidelines, and student duties. Students got a chance to know school programs, procedures, policy and code of conduct. Yorkland High School held the grand graduation ceremony for Class of 2019 graduates at Hart House, University of Toronto on June 13th, 2019.  All staff, teachers, and graduates dressed up and attended the ceremony. Parents and guests from various circles were also invited to witness the meaningful moment.  The ceremony started with welcome speech from MC, the student Eily Zhang, Then, the principle (Mr. Bailey), the teacher representative (Ms. Moros), and the Student Council president gave their speeches respectively. The most important moment of the ceremony was that Mr. Bailey and Ms. Satmarean gave ceremony announcements, and the graduates walked on the stage one by one to receive their diploma. In order to enrich students’ school life, Yorkland organized a spring field trip to Kingston, which was on May 24th, 2019. Firstly, the students visited Queen’s University which is one of Canada's leading universities, with an international reputation for scholarship, research, social purpose, spirit and diversity. They walked in the Queen’s campus to feel the charm of the long-established university. Besides, the students had chances to look around Royal Military College of Canada, Bellevue House and Kingston City Hall. Most importantly, the students took a cruise to visit the 1000 Islands that are a group of more than 1,800 islands in the St. Lawrence River, straddling the border of the U.S. and Canada. Happy Easter 2019

Easter is a Christian holiday that celebrates the belief in the resurrection of Jesus Christ. In order to let our international students more understand this festival, Yorkland High School organized an Easter assembly on April 17th, 2019. Under the guidance of the teachers, our students did presentations to introduce the origin of Easter, Easter Poem recital, and Love Song. The students of photography class also showed their wonderful photos which were taken in the class. Moreover, the students played and introduced the anti-bullying film made by themselves. At the end of the assembly, the students took part in the Easter egg hunt in groups of 5-6. The group that found the most eggs won movie tickets.

Yorkland High School always maintains excellent cooperation with Ryerson University. Yorkland and Ryerson organized a campus tour to help our students to better understand Ryerson University on February 21st, 2019. Our students heard from international students succeeding in the university, which is a great chance to learn about the experiences of international students at Ryerson. The Admission officer also did a presentation for our students to help them learn more about admission requirements, foundation program and services offered to Ryerson students. Also, the students visited Allan Slaight Radio Institute, Ryerson University Architecture Building, St. James Square, Mattamy Athletic Centre and the Student Learning Centre.
